After a damper in the past month, the mood of the local consumers has apparently brightened up again in October. This is evident from a current study, the results of which the commercial association Germany (HDE) published on Monday.
“Thus, consumers start the last quarter of the year, but a clear mood thrust cannot be seen,” said the industry organization in a message. “With a view to the coming months, consumers are more likely to be behaving, and consumer retention still predominates.”
The association referred to the current HDE consumption barometer for October. The monthly index, which is based on the survey of 1,600 people on consumer -relevant topics, had increased slightly compared to September.
The increase was therefore, although the questioned consumers: Inside, the general economic development assessed more pessimistic than in the previous month. “If the launch of the new federal government, the hope of overall economic growth was initially associated, the not fulfilled expectations are now disappointing,” explained the HDE.

Nevertheless, consumers showed themselves: inside a little more confident about the development of one’s own income. So the inclination of the acquisition compared to the previous month, while the endeavor to put on savings, remained almost unchanged.
“A shift from savings to consumption should be observed when it comes to output behavior,” emphasized the association, but stamped the expectations: “However, a consumption upswing is not yet in sight. A noticeable recovery of private consumption is expected to use the next year at the earliest.” However, the HDE may already increase the buying mood in the course of the upcoming Christmas business, according to the HDE.
