From the hands of Mayor Rick Beukers, Schilder received a silver shoe. It is the highest award in the municipality of Edam-Volendam, which made it honor citizen of the municipality.
“She came in this morning and she was so nervous,” says her mother Angelica Schilder. “It’s not really my thing,” says Jessica, who was visibly tense for the ceremony. “But I thought it was great.”
In the final of the shot put, painter hit no less than 20.29 meters. However, she only did that in her last attempt. Earlier this year, painter was already Dutch and European champion shot put.
