With the 0-0 against SC Freiburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach leaves at least the end of the table. A lot of work is waiting during the international break.

The Gladbach professionals picked up encouraging applause from the fans, the Freiburger angrily talked to referee Daniel Schlager after the final whistle: Borussia Mönchengladbach again missed the first victory in the Bundesliga at the end of a turbulent week and set up a club negative record.

Five days after the resignation of the sports managing director Roland Virkus, the team of coach Eugen Polanski did not get over a 0-0 against SC Freiburg. For Borussia it was the 13th league game in series without success – the traditional club had never had a longer dry spell before.

“Of course you want to win. But we have to take the point with us,” said Borussias Kevin Diks, who looked at the bankruptcy against Frankfurt, at “DAZN”. The Freiburg were not satisfied either. “We are currently not doing so easily,” said Matthias Ginter. After the final whistle, the Breisgauer struggled with a supposed foul to Johan Manzambi in the penalty area, which was not punished in added time. “We now have to bundle the forces and then attack again,” said Ginter.

The Borussia remained in her Bundesliga history for the third time in the first six match days of a season without a win. The draw against the Europa League participant Freiburg, who in turn remained one after the other without three points in the second game, meant the leap from the end of the table to 17th place. In the international break, a successor for Virkus must now be found-and then quickly decided whether Polanski can also sit at Union Berlin on the Gladbach coaching bench.

Even without Virkus, he received “a lot of support”, said Polanski before the groundbreaking encounter, at which Florian Neuhaus celebrated his starting eleventh for Borussia this season. Most recently, the 28-year-old, who had noticed his “Mallorca video” negatively in the summer, was in the first team of Gladbacher last April-also in a home game against Freiburg.

In contrast to the crazy 4: 6 against Eintracht Frankfurt, the game started calmly at autumn twelve degrees. The Gladbachers left the ball to the guests in the initial phase and initially focused on stability on the defensive – with success.

Nicolas directs Scherhann free kick to the crossbar

And so the Borussia registered after a quarter of an hour more in the opposing half. After a nice combination, a sharp flank from Rocco Reitz found no buyer (19th). Shortly afterwards, Neuhaus sent the Gladbach captain on the trip, but the shot of the U21 national player was blocked at the last moment (28th).

The hosts now performed with more self -confidence, the scoring opportunities increased. But Yannik Engelhardt with his header (29th) and Philipp Sander Per Dropkick (31st) failed on goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. The break went goalless.

The Freiburg, who made a somewhat tired impression after the European Cup trip to FC Bologna, became more active in the second round. A header from Jan-Niklas Best rushed past the goal (56th), Johan Manzambi aimed at the best position (66.). The Gladbacher threw themselves into every duel. Keeper Moritz Nicolas steered a free kick from Freiburg Derry Scherhann (83.) to the crossbar.
