“Great, a few years ago things went wrong here, today we made that more than well,” said the Brit in the interview afterwards. “I am very grateful for that also towards the team. On Friday it was still a very tough day for many different reasons, but I felt much better when it was about it.”

“I was nervous in the beginning, when I saw Max on softs,” he admitted. “But the first stint was very good and I quickly increased my lead.” Russell had not seen this victory coming immediately. “Prior to the season, I would put this race at the bottom if it arrived at races that we could win.”
Choice of softs
Verstappen also discussed his choice to start softs. “The course had just dried up, so I tried to do something else. But that didn’t work. After that I just had to make sure that the first stint maintained for as long as possible to change as late as possible. This was the highest achievable result in the end.”
Norris spoke of “a tough race.” “And Max made no mistakes. I gave everything, but it was just too difficult to catch up. Yet I won two places in this race and as a team we have the constructor title. I am of course very happy with that.”
