Almost 42 hours after the overtime thriller in the European Cup, the Niners Chemnitz were back on the floor in the Bundesliga and once again conquered one of their “favorite opponents”.

The Niners Chemnitz celebrated the first victory on the second matchday of the basketball Bundesliga. On Friday (October 3), the Rodrigo Pastore team won in front of 4,814 spectators in the Chemnitz trade fair thanks to a strong second half with 102: 78 (42:44) against the Veola Towers Hamburg. The North Germans are a welcome opponent at the Niners, who now celebrated the tenth victory in the eleventh first division duel against Hamburg.

Tired European Cup legs on both sides

Similar to the Niners, the Hanseates had also been active in the Eurocup during the week. Both teams were noticed in the game, the hardships of the defeats. There were always moments when they didn’t look wide awake.

After a balanced start, Hamburg was able to use one of these weak phases in the middle of the first quarter and initially break away. Until the beginning of the second section, this lead grew to nine points (22: 31/11.). But the Niners revived – led by Yordan Mingev – were now more vigilant with the rebounds and took the lead for the first time after 17 minutes at 39:38. With 42:44 from a Chemnitz perspective, it finally went into half.

Ty Brewer (99) scored two of his 16 points by Dunking.

Niners take over full control

In the middle of the third quarter, the game suddenly tipped in favor of the Saxons. The Niners were dominant under the basket and always got second litters. In addition, the field quota of the Chemnitzer went up more and more, while the towers left numerous chances. A 23: 4 run in the final section brought the decision.

Mintchev was the top scorer of the Niners in the end and put on a double double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Ty Brewer and Nike Siband came to 16 points each. Kevin Yebo scored 12 points against the association, in which he celebrated his BBL debut in 2019.
