The former Düsseldorf Bundesliga coach Uwe Rösler becomes the new head coach at the second division club VfL Bochum.
The 56-year-old ex-professional receives a contract with the Bundesliga relegation until summer 2027, but does not take over the Bochum on Monday. On Saturday at the 1st FC Kaiserslautern (1 p.m./live in the Sportschau-Ticker), the penultimate table is still looked after by the interim coach David Siebers. After that, Siebers should return to the U19.
VfL confirmed the personnel that some media had previously reported. The Westphalia had separated from Dieter Hecking in mid -September. “We are pleased that with Uwe Rösler we found an extremely experienced trainer who also left his mark internationally and experienced a lot.
Most recently under contract in Denmark
Rösler, who knows the Bundesliga and 2nd league as a player and as a coach, was recently employed by the Danish Club Aarhus GF for three years. The cooperation ended at the end of last season. From 2020 to 2021, Rösler was under contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf as the successor to Friedhelm Funkel, but was unable to prevent the Bundesliga descent and left the club a year later after the contract.
“We hope that he will give the team the necessary stability to get into calmer table regions as quickly as possible,” said Kaenzig. VfL last had to accept five defeats in a row.
A lot of work for Rösler
The Bochumers threaten to be passed through to the 3rd league. Two years ago, they had just reached relegation in the Bundesliga relegation against Fortuna Düsseldorf. In the past season, they descended as the bottom of the table. In the 2nd league, VfL is in the penultimate place and is only in the bottom of the light because of the somewhat better goal difference compared to 1. FC Magdeburg.
After long-term coach Thomas Reis, who was employed by VfL for over three years (until September 2022), there were intensive staffing in Bochum. Three trainers (Thomas Letsch, Peter Zeidler, Dieter Hecking) and four interim coaches (Heiko Butscher, Markus Feldhoff, Murat Ural, David Siebers) later, Rösler is now to stabilize the team.
“I think David Siebers is a great coaching talent and wish him every success for the difficult task on the Betzenberg,” said the former FCK striker Rösler: “I am sure that I will take over an absolutely intact team and am already looking forward to the challenge for a great club.”
