After the change of his sporting citizenship, goalkeeper Luca Zidane was immediately appointed to Algeria’s squad. The 27 -year -old son of Zinédine Zidane, who stands in the second Spanish league at FC Granada between the posts, wants to go to the World Cup 2026 with the African country.

“I think if Zidane has been appointed, then because he deserves it. I am convinced that he can bring in other qualities with our properties,” said national coach Vladimir Petkovic, who also explained: “It is premature to discuss who is number 1 now.” With a market value of 1.5 million euros, Zidane is currently the most valuable Algerian goalkeeper. This year there were already four different keepers in the goal at Les Verts. In addition to Zidane, the keeper Oussama Benbout and Alexis Guendouz were also nominated.

So far, Zidane had only been active for young talent teams in France. The second oldest son of Zidan is eligible to play due to his father’s origin for Algeria. Zidane Senior, who once played 108 caps for Les Bleus and became world and European champions with them, comes from an Algerian family of immigrants. The North Africans meet Africa in the World Cup qualification on October 9th and 14th on Somalia and Uganda. Also from the Bundesliga are Ramy Bensebaini (BVB), Mohamed Amoura (VfL Wolfsburg), Farès Chaïbi (Eintracht Frankfurt), Badredine Bouanani (VfB Stuttgart) and Ibrahim Maza (Bayer Leverkusen).
