The SC Freiburg falls behind through a goalkeeper. But in the second half, the Bundesliga club proves morality – and is closer to victory than the home side.

SC Freiburg also scored in the second Europa League game this season. After the opening victory at home against FC Basel last week (2-1), the sports club came to a 1-1 on Thursday evening at Serie-A team FC Bologna.

Freiburg found it difficult to get into the game and could hardly set an offensive accent. The only exception in half -time one: the shot by Johan Manzambi after a corner was blocked shortly before the line from Bologne Santiago Castro (23rd).

A few minutes later, the SC was behind. Because the hosts took the lead after a mistake from Freiburg U21 national goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, who had a shot from Bolognas Nicolo Cambiaghi clap. Riccardo Orsolini dusted out of short distance (29th).

“We don’t look good at 0: 1 in one or the other position,” said sports director Klemens Hartenbach during the break at RTL+. “I too had already ticked him off in the stands,” said Hartenbach about the ball that Atubolu did not hold. “Maybe it was the case that he was already mentally in the start of the counter. He is not normal. I don’t know.”

SC coach Julian Schuster reacted during the break, brought Derry Scherhann for captain Vincenzo Grifo Grifo. That had an effect. The Breisgauer now had significantly more train to the goal. And that was rewarded. Scherhann tested goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski (53.). After the following corner, Matthias Ginter headed the ball on the hand of opponent Santiago Castro. Referee Nenad Minakovic looked at the scene on the video screen and decided on a penalty. This attacker Junior Adamu confidently converted it to 1-1 (57th).

As a result, Freiburg remained on the trigger, pressing for the lead. The best chance missed Joker Scherhann, who failed free -standing after a counterattack to Bologn goalkeeper Skorupski (69.). On the other hand, Jens Odgaard’s low shot rushed past around 20 meters just past Freiburg’s box (73.). In the end, it stayed with the draw, which benefits the guests more than Bologna, which had lost 0-1 at Aston Villa at the start.
