Un Sleep cycle lasts between 90 and 110 minutes and consists in the alternation of two phases: the Rem phase (Rapid Eye Movement: rapid eye movement), generally associated with dreams, and the nrem phase (Non-Rapid Eye Movement). Most complete adults from 4 to 6 cycles per night is believed and that only the Rem phase is linked to dreams. But is it really the only phase you dream of?
Since the 1950s, Rem sleep has been associated with dreams. The movement of the eyes had suggested a sort of “observation” of dream images, but today it is clear that there is no necessary link between the two activities: In fact, you can dream even if the eyes are not on the move. That idea, widespread in the past decades, has been repeatedly denied since the 1960s and is now considered in all respects a “myth”.
The most recent searches have confirmed that i Dreams Nrem are less frequent, shorter and more conceptual, while REM dreams tend to be similar to real storiesfull of sensory details and closer to the experiences that we remember when you awaken.
