Leverkusen continues to wait for a win after the second matchday in the Champions League – Bayer unnecessarily gave up a lead against PSV Eindhoven. At the start, Bayer had not got beyond a 2-2 in Copenhagen.
The 19-year-old top talent Christian Kofane had brought the hosts in the 65th minute in the tour on Wednesday evening (October 1st, 2025), but after that the host could be pushed too deep in the back without need, gave the game check and consequently collected the 1-1 by Ismael Saibari (72nd).
Alejandro Grimaldo was then satisfied with DAZN: “I think we played one of our best games, we played out a lot of chances – but that’s Champions League. We are sad because we deserve more. But we have to go on like this, we have to continue working.”
Meeting of the old acquaintances
The duel was first under the motto “reunion party”: Leverkusen’s replacement for the Liverpool record-transferred Florian Wirtz came from Eindhoven: Malik Tillman has similar start-up difficulties as Wirtz at the Reds.
At PSV, Matěj Kovář stood in the goal that Bayer had not believed in the number 1 role and therefore let him go. Eindhoven is being coached by Peter Bosz, who trained the workself from January 2019 to March 2021 and led to the DFB Cup final 2020-but ultimately it failed that he always treated the defensive in his coaching repertoire somewhat neglected.
Perisic meets early – but the VAR steps in
Offensive, however, Bosz can feel like no other in Europe, Leverkusen also felt in the 5th minute: Ismael Saibari had too much time against Grimaldo on the right sixteeneck, the butter -soft flank on the long post nodded Ivan Perišić with effortlessly – but it conceded the gate again because of a short offside position.
PSV Eindhoven’s Perisic (number 5) meets the supposed 1-0 against Leverkusen
Leverkusen put this early shock away quite well, minute the radius of action in the last third of the guests increased minute and also became more mature. Only the last accuracy was missing again and again. Grimaldo hit the post (11th), a long -range shot from Aleix García (15) just next to the goal, and Tillman shot in the arms of the keeper in the 25th minute.
PSV remains surprisingly passive – and fails in the defense
From Eindhoven there was little creativity and courage in this phase, Perisic alone tried to move something from time to time. Even in the second round, it didn’t get better for the Dutch, after an hour the guests had just lined up four shots on goal – no single of them on the housing of Mark Flekken.
The leadership of the Leverkuseners was therefore completely deserved, even if the PSV had a huge proportion: PSV captain Jerdy Schoute played a devastating back pass to Armando Obispo, which did not expect it at all. Kofane was wide awake in this scene, grabbed the ball and let. Kovář no chance.
First shot on the gate immediately successful
Bayer seemed to have everything under control in this phase, but failed to make a decisive manner. This punished Eindhoven ice cold – and hit the Flekken goal with the very first shot. Guus Til was not disturbed by Jarell Quansah at all, afterwards Loic Badé acted even worse against Saibari, who could be danced simply and grown into the void. Saibari’s Schlenzer from a half -left position was also outstanding – flekken stretched in vain, the ball hit in the right angle.
After that, Leverkusen came out of rhythm completely, got almost no orderly offensive action and always looked disoriented in the defense. In the second round, Eindhoven ultimately had around 65 percent possession and was even allowed to be annoyed after the last 20 minutes not to go home with three points. In the 3. minute of stoppage time, Bayer almost hit again: Grimaldo failed with a low shot on the strongly reacting Kovář.
