The Cologne Haie beat the Grizzlys Wolfsburg on the 6th matchday of the DEL and celebrated the first home win of the season.

The KEC beat the grizzlys on Sunday with 4: 2 (1: 1/2: 0/1: 1) after the defeat in Augsburg on Friday in the road to success. Overall, it was the third win of the season and also the third victory in the past four games. The two home games at the start of the season had lost the sharks.

With nine points, the previous year’s finalist climbs to eighth place in the table. For the grizzlys it was only the second season of the season. Wolfsburg is in third place with twelve points.

Gregor Macleod (5th) had given the sharks in the lead, Jimmy Lambert equalized after 13 minutes. In the middle third, Oliwer Kasci (31st) and Louis-Marc Aubry (34th) took care of the again Cologne leadership. Tyler Gaudet shortened in the final minute for Wolfsburg (60th), Kaski provided the final score (60th).

Game started with delay

The game started with a delay. The teams were already ready, when the ice cream had to be newly prepared. After a few minutes of additional break, the guests caught the playfully better start into the game. But the Cologne team scored the gate. Macleod got the puck in a central position and hit the left corner from the turn. Ex-sharks goalie Hannibal Weitzmann was without a chance of defense (5th).

But then the KEC made life difficult for itself. First Tanner Kero had to go to the penalty bench for two minutes, then Patrick Russel went too hard against Bobby Lynch in the gang and even had to get out for five minutes. Wolfsburg used the double outnumbered by Lambert to compensate.

Shortly before the third break, Lambert had caught it himself. After a duel with Moritz Müller, the current DEL top scorer remained and had to be accompanied by the ice.

Sharks pull away in the middle third

In the middle third, the sharks then showed that they too can power play. In the formation, Kaski pulled off a half -right position and hit the left upper Kreuzeck (31st). It was the reward for a committed third of the sharks, which only three minutes after the lead to 3-1. After a punched in front of the Wolfsburg Gate, Aubry pressed the puck over the line (34th).

In the final third, the sharks again focused on defensive work. Wolfsburg tried to attack, but it was difficult to play out clear degrees. The sharks kept the grizzyls away from their own goal, but was too negligent with their own chances.

Exciting final minute

And so it got exciting again in the final minute, because Wolfsburg still came to the connection. Gaudet pressed a rebound from the gang to 3: 2 from a Cologne perspective into the goal (60th). Grizzlys head coach Mike Stewart took Weitzmann off the ice to get to equalize with an extra field player. But the plan did not work. Instead, Kaski hit the empty goal and secured the Cologne home win.

The sharks will continue next Thursday (7.30 p.m.) with a home game against the Fischtown Penguins. The Grizzlys Wolfsburg travel to the EHC Red Bull Munich on Friday (4.30 p.m.).
