The Fenerbahçe still doesn’t run smoothly. An old acquaintance from the Bundesliga is therefore probably already in front of the departure.

Domenico Tedesco is in office for just three weeks at Fenerbahçe. And yet on Sunday he could be on the sidelines of the Turkish top club for the last time. As the large Turkish daily “Sabah” reports, the duel against Antalyaspor (from 7 p.m.) could mean Tedesco’s final.

The former coach of FC Schalke 04 (2017 to 2019) had only started the job in Istanbul in early September – starting coach José Mourinho had to go before “Fener” missed the qualification for the Champions League. The new Fenerbahçe President Sadettin Saran started in the same month-and has thus replaced his predecessor Ali Koç (from 2018 to 2025). The 58-year-old Koç brought Tedesco to Istanbul at the time and was considered a advocate of the German coach.

New President Sadettin Saran is said to pursue his own plans and is likely to have thrown an eye on the head coach. Tedesco’s current balance sheet: With a record win against Trabzonspor, he had a successful start at Fenerbahçe. But two draws against Alanyaspor (2: 2) and Kasımpaşa (1: 1) in the Turkish Süper Lig and a clear 1: 3 defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League followed. For the ambitious Istanbul club, this is too lean yield.

The tense term in Istanbul is not new to Tedesco: At the beginning of the year, he had already lost his post as a national coach of Belgium. After only 24 games and several disappointing results, he had to go there. If he also had to leave Fenerbahçe again, he would at least collect a severance payment from the Turkish top club. According to the “Sabah” report, Tedesco’s salary is 2.5 million per year. His contract in Istanbul runs until summer 2027.
