At the start of the council meeting, Boerman wants to hand over a pamphlet to Mayor Schuurmans on behalf of all parties. In that document, the Council unanimously states to be the use of violence in demonstrations. But it soon becomes apparent that not all parties just want to participate in the pamphlet.
Two parties, Social Right Haarlemmermeer (SRH) and Belang van Nederland (BVNL), do not want to participate for various reasons, but both refer to the failure of such a joint statement in the Lower House, earlier on Thursday.
There, a number of center and left-wing parties refused to be on such a pamphlet together with, among others, the PVV and FVD, because according to them they would stimulate violence in demonstrations.
SRH speaks of a shame in the city council, and therefore does not want to participate in the GroenLinks pamphlet. They do endorse the text that is in the document. BVNL makes the reverse reasoning. They fear that the initiative will be canceled if they also indicate that they want to participate. In the event of a survey, however, that fear appears unfounded, after which all councilors still participate in the joint conviction.
