On the proposal of Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, the Council of Ministers agreed to offer the reclassification bill of the municipalities of Hilversum and Wijdemeren to the Council of State. These municipalities want to merge ‘light’ by adding the territory of Wijdemeren to Hilversum. The municipality of Wijdemeren is thus lifted.
In 2023, Wijdemeren decided that reindlings is necessary to stay future -proof. Since 2024, the municipalities of Hilversum and Wijdemeren have been exploring cooperation options. Residents, entrepreneurs and the municipal authorities have become convinced that ‘light merger’ of the 2 municipalities has added value. This means that the municipality of Wijdemeren is being lifted and the municipal boundary of Hilversum is changed in such a way that the territory of Wijdemeren is added to that of Hilversum. The reclassification creates a powerful municipality that has the services in order for its residents and can meet social tasks.
The Council of Ministers has agreed to send the bill for advice to the Council of State. The cabinet strives for the introduction of this reclassification as of January 1, 2027.
