Oliver Kahn has not been in goal since his career end in 2008. An experience from his active time as a goalkeeper is still burdening him.

The three -time world goalkeeper Oliver Kahn spoke for the first time about a story from his time at Karlsruher SC, which has not been let go to this day. As a guest on the ARD show “Inas Nacht”, moderator Ina Müller initially asked him whether he put on the goalkeeper gloves again after his end of his career in 2008-then the conversation took an unexpected turn.

“Not once,” replied Kahn. After the farewell game at FC Bayern, he stood in the goal in the Allianz Arena. “Maybe in the garden with my children,” continued the “Titan”. Moderator Müller Hakte immediately and wanted to know whether he voluntarily left the balls there. Kahn thought about a moment before letting Müller winked.

Before the moderator was able to end her next sentence, Kahn asked: “Can I clarify a story?” Müller knew directly what it was about and let the 56-year-old be correct. Kahn told about a friendly game as a substitute goalkeeper of the Karlsruher SC. At half -time there was a penalty shootout with ten spectators. “I held everyone,” said Kahn, who is said to have annoyed people with it.

“It was said that it was a mess that the Oliver Kahn holds everyone, because every goal would have been for a good cause,” Kahn continued before emphasizing: “I didn’t know that.” Nobody told him that it was about a good cause and was ambitious like Kahn, he wanted to hold every ball “typically”. “This story still depends on me today,” revealed the former national goalkeeper.

After seven years at KSC, Kahn switched to Bayern in 1994. With the German record champion, he became a German champion eight times, six times DFB Cup winner and also won the Champions League. In September 2008 he played his last game for the Munich against the German national team (1-1).
