The Germany eight actually plays a major role in rowing. But at the World Cup this year the team is missing in the A-final.

The German men’s eggs surprisingly missed the A-final at the Ruder World Cup in Shanghai. After a disappointing third place in the lead, the medal dream for the flagship of the German rowing association has already burst.

Coach Mark Emke seemed disappointed: “It was not a good race. We got under pressure and then made mistakes. Today we can cry a bit and then we have to restart.” Rower Mattes Schönherr spoke of a “huge disappointment” and the weakest result of the season.

After a change, the team had last convinced with second place at the World Cup in Varese and a victory in Lucerne. In Shanghai, however, there was no rhythm and dynamics-the move into the A-final was denied in Racice as in 2022. Now on Saturday it’s all about the B final.

For Sönke Kruse, Theis Hagemeister, Julius Christ, Paul Klatterich and helmsman Jonas Wiesen, the mixed eggs offers a second chance. The new boat class is celebrating its premiere at this World Cup. The rudder world association sees this a future -oriented step. At the World Cup in Varese, the German mixed boat took second place behind the USA.

“We have occupied both boats with the best rowers,” said national coach Sven Ueck. The goal is the final first, then the podium. The finals take place on Sunday (Mixed-Echter: 8.57 a.m. German time). Frauke Hundeling, Luise Bachmann, Tabea Schendekehl and Anna Härtl also row in the German boat.

Meanwhile, the Frauen-Achter reached the World Cup A final for the first time since 2009. In the preliminary, the team led by key Nora Peuser only had to give up Great Britain. The final will increase on Saturday (9.05 a.m. German time).
