The blue added the long jump to its races: “It is a year of construction towards Los Angeles 2028”
The world athletics World Championships in Tokyo have been completed for a few days, where the Azzurri recorded the historical record of medals, an exceptional result. But the world emotions do not end there. The world championships of Paralympic light athletics are ready that will take place in India from 27 September to 5 October. The athletic Gotha will be present at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, with over 1000 athletes from 107 countries. A rich program, from racing to launches, passing through the jumps, with 186 races scheduled. Italy presents itself with a solid national team, made up of veterans and debutants. The experience of Assunta Legiera and the “baptism” world champion of Antonella Inga. Many names of established athletes, such as those of ONEY TAPIA (disc and weight cat. F11) and Oxana Corso (at the world debut in the cats cat. F35), but above all Ambra Sabatini (cat. T63), back from those 100 meters at the Paris games, now forgotten, and ready to try even in the long jump.
desire for redemption
–
“There is a great desire for redemption after Paris – says the Tuscan athlete – and this world championship is a highly anticipated stop. There have been changes: I changed the coach, city and I added a very technical new specialty. It is a year of construction in perspective Los Angeles 2028 – continues – and I care a lot about this competition. I will go on the track without fear, with a great desire to do well and aware of being able to aspire to good results”. Assunta Legiera (weight cat. F11), blue captain, is among the certainties of the group: “Each manifestation is a new emotion despite the many years of activity. I am sure that, like me, my companions will leave the track and from the platform with the sweaty tank top, having put it entirely”. Marco Cicchetti, European neoprimatist of 100 and 200 (cat. T44), appears confident: “We are talking about growth and I have perceived it this year, both by the federation and internationally of my opponents. In turn I grew up in performance, so the expectations are high. Now the important thing is to bring in the race what you can do in training”.
The president of the Italian Paralympic Committee Marco Giunta De Sanctis is also enthusiastic: “A very popular competition program, where thirteen athletes will measure themselves in New Delhi out of 23 specialties, ready to challenge their skills to adapt them to the objectives, very ambitious. One year from the World Cup in Japan, we impatiently wait for the performance of our athletes on the maximum international trial bench”. He added: “After the extraordinary blue statements of this summer, with the podiums conquered to the cycling, to fencing, canoeing and swimming in these hours, we prepare for the next ones, I hope, great successes. The blue team is a mix of young talents and stars of first greatness”. For President Fispes Mariano Salvatore: “The results of the latest international events demonstrate the solidity of the path taken and give us confidence in view of New Delhi. The team we present today has all the potential to confirm the blue tradition at the highest levels, combining experience and new energies”.
