Alejandro Grimaldo also dealt with a departure from Bayer Leverkusen this summer. “I also thought about a change, but in the end I said to myself: I stay. And that’s a good thing,” said the 30 -year -old Spaniard in “Sky“-InterView price.
Grimaldo had emphasized several times in the past few months that one day he wants to return to his homeland. He only left the time of a possible change. “It doesn’t have to be this year. It could be so far next year that it could be in two years, it could be in five years. Maybe it never happens, but you will certainly understand my position here in the club,” he told the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” in August. FC Barcelona in particular is said to have tried to commit his former young player.
“I thought that at least a year was still good for me. So I enjoy this season and give everything,” Grimaldo explained his decision to stay. His contract is valid until 2027 and therefore one year longer than it provides for his personal planning. In August he had emphasized that he was “very happy” at Bayer, now he put it again: “In Leverkusen, I feel very loved by the fans, just like from the club. Here I feel valued here.”
In the past transfer phase, the Werkelf had taken almost 230 million euros through player sales, but with Florian Wirtz (22; Liverpool), Jeremie Frimpong (24; Liverpool), Granit Xhaka (32; Sunderland), Lukas Hradecky (35; Monaco) and Jonathan Tah (29; Bavaria) lost. In return, around 198 million euros were invested in newcomers (for the transfer overview).
