The IJmuidenaar opened his mail unsuspectingly yesterday. To his great surprise, he read the memorable news: congratulations, you are the new owner of a red Ferrari! “At first I thought: this is fake,” says the brand new winner today on NH Radio. “I still can’t believe it.”
A few days earlier he had bought two lottery tickets at a lottery of football club SV Borger from Drenthe. The aim of the lottery was to raise money for the construction of a new club building, but the sale was difficult. According to RTV Drenthe, the club had more than a week ago 17,000 lottery tickets over.
The story got the national media and received attention on radio channel 538, among other things, Harold heard it and decided to buy two lots. “For twenty euros I thought: you can always try it,” he says soberly. “Moreover, I wanted to lend a hand to the football club.”
Put it on Marktplaats?
And so happened. In the meantime, SV Borger Harold has announced that he can pick up his new acquisition next Friday. Yet he still doubts, because the football club also offers him an alternative option. “I can still choose between the Ferrari or a sum of money,” he explains. “It’s about 75,000 euros, so that’s not wrong.”
What he is going to choose, the lucky bird does not yet know exactly. Although he is a car enthusiast, he is not necessarily a fan of this specific model. “In itself it is not a very practical car,” the IJmuidenaar chuckles. “I don’t have a garage myself, and you don’t just put such a thing somewhere. I wouldn’t drive it every day; he would be more fun for a ride on Sunday. And who is having a car for the fun?”
The option to sell the car secretly also plays through his head. “I watched what he is worth. That’s a ton,” he laughs at NH radio.
No football fan
Yet, despite his doubts, Harold is grateful to the Drenthe football club. “I am very happy. And I like that I was able to help them this way,” he emphasizes again.
But whether he goes back to attend a club’s match? “I don’t really like football,” he admits. “And it is not really close to me either, although of course I will be quite quickly with that Ferrari.”
