The Croatian Tennis Federation has this at the news agency Dpa confirmed. Pilic was especially successful as a captain in the Davis Cup with Germany and Croatia.
Pilic led the German Davis Cup team three times to the title in 1988, 1989 and 1993. At the time, he had tennis players such as Boris Becker, Michael Stich, Carl-Ugo Steeb and Eric Jelen at his disposal. Pilic also won the country tournament with Croatia in 2005 and as an advisor to Serbia in 2010.

Pilic was also successful as a tennis player himself. He was in the final of Roland Garros in 1973 and was once the number 6 in the world.
