Who will be awarded the golden ball this year? The candidates include several old acquaintances.
This Monday the best in world football in the prestigious balloon d’Or election will be honored again. In the coaching category, ex-national coach Hansi Flick by Spain’s master FC Barcelona is only nominated with outsider chances. The German international Ann-Katrin Berger in the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris may hope for the goalkeeper.
In election as the best player, ex-Leverkusener Florian Wirtz (now FC Liverpool) and Bayern scorer Harry Kane are part of the 30 candidates. Top candidate is an old acquaintance from the Bundesliga: Ousmane Dembélé. The wing player played a season at Borussia Dortmund (2016/17) before the way via Barcelona to Paris St. Germain. With PSG he won the Champions League last season, plus the French league and the trophy.
Among other things, the German international Klara Bühl and Denmark Pernille Harder (both FC Bayern) have been nominated for women.
The award with the Golden Ball is a choice by journalists. The price, which is awarded by the newspaper “France Football” belonging to the Amaury Group in cooperation with the UEFA, has existed since 1956.
At the same time, the World Association FIFA has honored the world footballer of the year in its own choice since 1991. Between 2010 and 2015, FIFA had been collaborated with the Amaury Group. During this period, the price was awarded together as “FIFA Ballon d’Or”.
