Fortuna slipped in 13th place

Daniel Thioune has to fear for his job at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Sports board member Klaus Allofs confirmed after 0: 3 (0: 0) on Sunday against SV Darmstadt 98 that the 51-year-old is under special observation: “The coach is responsible for improving.”
An ultimatum like a final next weekend at the away game against relegated VfL Bochum denied Allofs, but also ruled out a job guarantee: “It would not be credible if I said that the coach is outside of any discussion.”
Thiune has been working at Fortuna since February 2022 and thus the second oldest coach in the 2nd Bundesliga behind Christian Eichner (Karlsruher SC) and Marcel Rapp (Holstein Kiel). After seven points from three games, the tendency near Düsseldorf, which narrowly missed the promotion in the past three years, actually showed upwards. Due to the defeat against Darmstadt, however, it was slid back to 13th place, with another bankruptcy there is a risk of relegation rank.
“I have to apologize to the audience after disappointing 90 minutes. We are still well served with the isolated whistles,” admitted Thioune, who has had a point cut of 1.77 in 133 games since taking office. It was only in November 2024 that he had extended his contract in the long term until 2028.
