Almost 400 fans deliver mass brawl in Dortmund

A train with Schalke fans makes an emergency braking in Dortmund. Shortly afterwards, problem fans come together with violent BVB supporters. The police check whether there was an appointment for violence.

On Saturday evening there was a massive discussion of violent football fans in Dortmund. According to the initial knowledge of the police, almost 400 supporters from Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund and also 1. FC Köln together in a forest near the railway tracks.

The starting point was the return trip from Schalke fans after the second division game in Magdeburg (final score 0: 2). According to police, the emergency brake was pulled twice on the train route through Dortmund. The second time a larger group got out of the train and ran into a nearby forest. According to the announcement, there was a violent examination of supporters from BVB and Cologne who maintain friendly contacts. Schalke’s fan scene is again that of Borussia Mönchengladbach, the arch rival of the Cologne.

The police met around 300 fans of FC Schalke on site, about 90 BVB supporters and five fans of 1. FC Köln. A police spokesman said that many of those involved had visible injuries such as redness on hands and face. The emergency services also ensured gloves, boxing bandages and ski masks. Now, among other things, it is checked whether there was an appointment to violence in advance.

The police initiated procedures for dangerous bodily harm, breach of the peace and dangerous intervention in rail traffic. Because some people were on the tracks, a helicopter was used. The Schalke group was accompanied by emergency services and continued their return trip later.

A few hours after the incident, there was another incident in Gelsenkirchen. According to the police, unknowns stormed a private celebration in a clubhouse and attacked guests, including fans of Rot-Weiss Essen. The attackers damaged furniture and called insults. According to witnesses, these people are also said to have been members of the organized Schalke fan scene. Whether there is a connection to the argument in Dortmund is part of the ongoing investigation.
