The four -time Olympic champion Michael Jung narrowly missed the gold in the European Championship, but won the title with the team.
Libussa Lübbeke, who provided the string result, Malin Hansen-Hotopp, Jérôme Robiné and Jung secured the German Equipe on the site around the Blenheim Palace in the British county Oxfordshire. Calvin Böckmann, who was not appointed to the quartet, became fourth with The Phantom of the Opera.
Jung had led after the dressage with chipmunk and took second place behind the local hero Laura Collett after the railing. On the final day, the 43-year-old from Horb am Neckar remained flawless in the jumping course. However, the leader could no longer intercept Jung.
“I had a great round in dressage, I had a great round off -road – I couldn’t have been faster – and I had a great show round,” said Jung. “I’m really happy with second place and with my horse. It was a great week.”
Great Britain’s team was considered favored. After the second rider had fallen in the field on Saturday, the team had to say goodbye to the successful title defense. Ireland and France followed behind Germany.
