After a pancreatic disease, Álex Mumbrú missed part of the SEM basketball. After gold in Riga, he went straight to the hospital – and still has to stay there.

Álex Mumbrú will be missing from the German national basketball team for a while. After pancreatitis, the national coach must continue to be treated inpatient – and that it is expected to be several weeks.

“I have to stay in the clinic for a total of three weeks to recover properly. It’s hard,” said the 46-year-old of the “Bild” newspaper. Mumbrú had traveled to Spain right after the European Championship final victory in Riga. There he went to a hospital for further medical care about a week ago. There is also an operation in the clinic.

The Spaniard had already lacked illness during the European Championship. Two days before the start of the preliminary round, he was hospitalized in the Finnish tampere with acute symptoms and stayed there for five nights. His assistant Alan Ibrahimagic jumped in.

Only in the round of 16 did álex Mumbrú return to the sidelines. But the ex-professional was clearly noticeable. After the victory against Portugal, he retired again and handed over the command to Ibrahimagic-who led the team around captain Dennis Schröder to the European Championship title with three other victories.

The return of the national coach is targeted for November. Then the next games are in the World Cup qualification. Ibrahimagic was optimistic about the ZDF sports studio: “I hope that Álex will be healthy until then and is back on the sidelines.”
