4×400 meter hurdles of men – Botswana surprises the USA
In the end, Botswana’s hurdles had narrowly ahead in an exciting race and referred the USA and South Africa to the places. Lee Bhekempilo Eppie, Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori and Busang Collen Kebinatshipi won in 2: 57.76 minutes in pouring rain.
800 meters of women – victory for outsider Lilian Odira
Lilian Odira surprisingly has the double stadium round. The Kenyan won in 1: 54.62 minutes and duped the two favorites from Great Britain on the last few meters. Georgia Hunter Bell (1: 54.90) won silver, bronze went to Keely Dodgkinson (1: 54.91). German runners were not at the start in the final.
5000 meters of the men – stool wins in the final sprint
The American Cole stool prevailed in an exciting final sprint. The two Ethiopians Biniam Mehary and Hagos Gebrhiwet and Hockers compatriot Grant Fisher had long determined the pace. But then the Norwegian Jakob took the lead to the top. At first Mehary opened at the final round, and inbreaves quickly lost the connection and became tenth at the end. In the final spurt, stools triumphed in 12: 58.30 minutes. Silver went to Isaac Kimeli from Belgium, bronze fetched Jimmy Gressier. The Frenchman had already won over the 10,000 meters of gold. Decathlon – Neugebauer can hope for gold
After an outstanding javelin throw in the race for gold, decathlon Leo Neugebauer goes to the final 1500 meters. The 25-year-old threw with 64.34 meters of personal best and is now 15 points ahead of Kyle Garland (USA). The Olympic runner-up and Garland are considered to be about equally good runners. Neugebauer also has to fear Ayden Owens-Delerme, the Puerto Ricaner has over 100 points behind, but is significantly stronger over the 1500 meters.
Niklas Kaul continued his chase with a strong javelin throw to 78.19 meters and is now in fourth place, but can no longer intervene in the race for the podium places under normal circumstances.
