Sander Skotheim was on a medal course. But a serious mistake happened to the world year’s best. The German dentist benefits Leo Neugebauer from this.
He was on a medal course and also had the chance of gold. But the dream on precious metal at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo has burst for the Norwegian Sander Skotheim. In the 110-meter hurdle run, the young athlete pushed an obstacle, came out of rhythm and touched the next hurdle with both hands by a stumbling block. According to the rules, this is not allowed and led to disqualification.
The Norwegian was therefore visibly taken away at the finish line, holding his hands in front of the face. After all, he had traveled as the world of indoor world champion and world year’s best. But it didn’t help. Of the original 24 athletes, only 17 are still in competition.
It went better from a German perspective: Leo Neugebauer mastered the hurdle run in 14.80 seconds and can continue to hope for a top three placement. He also convinced on Sunday morning in discus throwing (56.15 meters) and showed an outstanding performance in the pole vault (5.10 meters).
Niklas Kaul was also able to convince over the 100 meter hurdles. He set his season best with 14.45 seconds. However, the 2019 world champion did not go on so well. Surprisingly, the pole vault ended after 4.70 meters.
The 27-year-old has his greatest strengths in the last two disciplines and could come forward even further-but a medal appears to be out of reach at the moment.
