Censorship in action? That is why “Jimmy Kimmel Live” was discontinued indefinitely
The US TV network ABC stops the charisma of the late night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” indefinitely. This was justified with Jimmy Kimmel’s statements in his Monday evening monologue with regard to the shooter in the case of the right-wing activist Charlie Kirk close to the right, Donald Trump.

Censorship in action? That happened
On the evening of September 15, the late night presenter Jimmy Kimmel commented on the killing of Charlie Kirk. He indicated that the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, was a Republican Maga supporter and Trump supporter. Kimmel said: “The Maga gang tries desperately, this guy who murdered Charlie Kirk than presenting anything but one of them, and they try everything to make political capital from it.”
With reference to statements by Vice President JD Vance, who appeared as a guest moderator in Kirks Podcast, he added: “The president and his henchman do their best to fuel the flames so that, as I suspect, they can attack people of the dangerous left”, which was enough to provoke stratifying reactions. In its positioning, the Trump administration was so wounded that they made them aware of the U.S. media supervisory authority, the Federal Censorship Commission (FCC).
The Late Night Show will be broadcast for the time being
The chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr used by Trump, claimed that Kimmel’s monologue apparently was a “concerted action to lie to the American people”. The television broadcaster Nexstar Media Group went further and described the moderator’s statements about the death of ultra -right Charlie Kirk as “insulting and insensitive in a critical phase of our national political debate”.
Trump was pleased with the temporary dismissal of “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. He demanded that other programs, which are presented by moderator: inside, who do not necessarily play into the opinion of the President, are also taken from the program. Most recently, “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”, after Colbert, criticized the broadcaster’s paramount paramount paramount, for the fact that they attached a legal dispute with Donald Trump over $ 16 million. Donald Trump reacted positively to the removal. So he wrote on Truth Social: “I think it’s great that Colbert was fired. I heard that Jimmy Kimmel should be the next.”
“This is dangerous and unconstitutional”
No sooner said than done. Brendan Carr described Kimmel’s statements as an attempt to spin a narrative that the criminalization of Maga supporters: inside and Republicans promoted: inside. He threatened that there would be “additional work for the FCC” if no measures were taken against Kimmel. While the deputy chief of staff of the White House described the discontinuation of the late night show as an example of a “culture of the consequences”, the democratic Senator Ed brandy attested the procedure as “censorship in action”. The California governor Gavin Newsom wrote on X: “Buy and control media platforms. Disassembling commentators. Discontinuations. Discontinuation. These are no coincidences. This is coordinated. And that is dangerous.”
He argued: “The chairman of the FCC threatens ABC and Disney because of Kimmel’s statements, and only a few hours later he will be removed from the program. This is dangerous and unconstitutional. The message to all media companies is clear: take over the MAGA guideline or the Federal Czensors’ Commission will follow you.”
Concern for freedom of expression
Trump supporter: Inside, the decision of the FCC is usually satisfied. However, the louder voices are currently the ones that see a generally worrying consistency for freedom of expression in the actions of the FCC and the ABC. “This is not right,” wrote actor Ben Stiller on X. and the comedian Wanda Sykes said in a video on Instagram: “Trump did not end the war in Ukraine in his first week, nor solved the problem in Gaza. But he abolished freedom of expression in his first year.”
The first additional article on the Constitution of the United States guarantees the right to freedom of expression. Accordingly, the government may not issue laws that limit the freedom of the press. Actress Sophia Bush reacted to the removal of the Kimmel Show: “The first constitutional change no longer exists in America. Point. Fascism is there, and that is terrifying.”
Charlie Kirk was shot on September 10 during a performance on a university campus in the state of Utah. The 31-year-old was considered one of the most influential right-wing activists and as a mouthpiece of President Donald Trump for young people. According to the authorities, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson shot Kirk from one roof. He was arrested and charged by the public prosecutor’s office for murder. Shortly after the attack, Kimmel Kirk’s family contacted her condolences.
