Experts from the Member States of the European Union set the light on Friday to allow fertilizers, which were created by the processing of animal manure, under certain conditions in agriculture.

The Boerenbond has been arguing for years to be able to use recovered nitrogen from animal manure as fertilizer. A “big step forward for the agricultural sector,” said the Boerenbond about the European Green Light. “Renure fertilizers have no extra risk for ammonia emissions or water quality and they contribute to less dependence on importing expensive fertilizer and price and production fluctuations. Both the environment, the farmer and the consumer win,” says Boerenbond chairman Lode Ceyssens.

The organization is now insisting on a rapid implementation in Flanders.
