He has achieved his goal and also set up a personal best. Now Emil Agyekum can compete with the best in the World Cup final.

Emil Agyekum is in the final over the 400 meter hurdles at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo. The German athlete had reached the finish line with world record holder Karsten Warholm in advance and set up a personal best with 47.83 seconds.

Because he did not qualify directly, Agyekum had to hope to make it into the finals over time – this was the best time -fastest. The 26-year-old then explained in the ARD: “The goal was the final. I gave everything I could, and then I can also be satisfied with myself.”

Aggyekum ran the second fastest time, each German ran over the 400 meter hurdles. Only Harald Schmid, who ran 47.48 seconds in his German record in 1982 in Athens, lies in the leaderboard. At the World Cup, Agyekum ran the fifth fastest time of the semi-final runs.

The German finalist said: “You have to do your thing and I did my thing and I’m super proud of myself to have pulled it through.” He explained with a smile that he might bring his training group at the end of the season. Why? “This is love for the training group, for the great people with whom you can train together,” he said.

Warholm continued with a time of 47.72 seconds. The Olympic champion of Paris, Rai Benjamin, finished 47.95 seconds.
