The Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning (VRO) and the Dutch Register of Vastgoed Appraisers (NRVT) have signed a covenant to further improve the supervision of appraisals by the NRVT. Minister Mona Keijzer of VRO signed the covenant on Friday together with Mario Cosman, chairman of the NRVT.

Through the covenant, the government formally designates NRVT as a supervisory party in the appraisal sector. It has also been agreed that the Central Council, with parties from the sector, will be transformed into an advisory board without decision -making authority. This increases the independence of NRVT and thus the reliability and quality of appraisals.

In the covenant, further substance is given to recommendations from research agency SEO to improve the independence and effectiveness of the NRVT. Reliable and objective appraisals are important for the proper functioning of the real estate market. A correct estimate of the home value ensures that mortgage providers can estimate whether an applicant can actually bear the mortgage.
