Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson presented his version of the American national anthem on Sunday at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. The occasion was the first home game of the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Seattle Seahawks this season.

A Brit sings in Pittsburgh

The British musician wrote on Instagram that it was “a great honor” for him. After his A Cappella performance, he left the field under “USA! USA!” Call.

In a podcast interview (“The Charismatic Voice”), Dickinson recently revealed: “I have to sing the national anthem in Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They asked me if I do it. I will do it a cappella, and as long as you start right, everything fits.”

The NFL decision to let a British singer sing the hymn of a very American sport caused a conversation. A fan commented on Instagram: “The most accidental today was a Briton who sang the American national anthem.” Another wrote: “Why does a Brit sings the American national anthem? Especially during this time?”

Tour and anniversary

Dickinson is currently on the North America stage of his mandrake Project-solotour. On Tuesday he plays in Toronto, then in Montreal. On October 5, the tour ends with a concert in the Wiltern in Los Angeles.

Iron Maiden also celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025. Later in the year, a new documentary appears directed by Malcolm Venville, which illuminates the history and legacy of the metal legends-with voices from band members and fans such as Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich and Gene Simmons. The film also contains the last interview with the original singer Paul Di’anno, who died last year.
