HSVH collects bitter derby defeat

HSV Hamburg almost misses a surprise in the top game against the THW Kiel. A strong final sprint of the Kiel decides the competitive duel.

Hamburg’s handball players have lost the small north derby in the handball Bundesliga. At record champions THW Kiel, HSVH lost just 27:25 (16:14) on Saturday evening.

Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu protruded with eleven goals as the best thrower of the THW. Fredrik Bo Andersen and Nicolaj Jörgensen met for the Hamburgers with six goals in front of 10,104 spectators.

The guests started with Elias Kofler in the back, while goal scorer Jörgensen initially took a seat on the bench. This tactic of HSVH coach Torsten Jansen initially had little effect. Only through several parades by goalkeeper Robin Haug did Hamburg work out a narrow 5: 4 lead in the 12th minute.

At the THW, Ellefsen á Skipagøtu took over the game design. With his speed and overview, the 23-year-old Färinger presented the Hamburg defense against problems and also scored the goal for the meantime 14:11 in the 25th minute.

After the break, the record champion stalled. Seven minutes passed until Veron Nacinovic scored the first Kiel hit in the second round at 17:16. In the 54th minute, Jörgensen Hamburg brought the lead with 25:23. But the THW replied with a 4-0 run and won the game.
