Eintracht Frankfurt wanted to win the next victory against Leverkusen. But nothing came of it. The trainer found clear words after the game with a view of the championship race.

The 44-year-old seemed visibly annoyed after the game on the Sky microphone. When asked about a possible chase role of the SGE towards FC Bayern, Toppmöller reacted unusually. “Maybe the whole shit stops now,” he said.

After the first defeat of his team, Toppmöller was also disillusioned. The trainer spoke of a deserved victory for Leverkusen, but also emphasized his team’s own shares in the result. “If you want to take something with you, you need a top performance, but it was just an okay performance,” said his analysis.

With a win, Frankfurt could at least have temporarily jumped to the top of the table – the team was accordingly disappointed. National player Robin Koch campaigned after the game for more reluctance in the public assessment: “I think it can now be seen from the outside that we should step on the brakes a bit with statements,” said the captain. You have a young team, he pointed out.

Sports director Markus Krösche also found clear words. “Overall, it was simply too little, it was a bad performance,” he said. The team was too headless and hectic, “did not bring all of this to the pitch”.

The SGE had after two references to Bayer – Robert Andrich saw in the 59th minute red, Equi Fernández flew from the field (90.+2) – even overnumbered over long stretches. Frankfurt could not use the advantage.
