Palace coach warned of sales

The impending departure of Marc Guéhi (25) was the big topic of Crystal Palace on Deadline Day in early September. In the end, the central defender, who stood in front of a 40 million euro change to Liverpool FC, remained in London. Otherwise rumors that successful coach Oliver Glasner threatened to resign with the Eagles, the former Bundesliga coach now vehemently contradicted. Liverpool, on the other hand, was to be understood that the player’s obligation has not yet been written off.
“The Palace fans deserve to know how it really was,” said Glasner on Friday during his press conference in front of the Premier League match against promoted Sunderland on Saturday (4 p.m.). “So much was written and said. I never threatened to leave the club.”
Glasner said about the situation around the impending loss of Guéhis and the conversations with club boss Steve Parish: “After many discussions, the chairman asked me: ‘Oliver, do you think we create the season when we sell Marc?’ I said, ‘Steve, honestly, we can’t do it at short notice.’ “
Glasner continues to make a decision “against the money” – Liverpool
It would have been “very, very risky” to give Guéhi, said Glasner, since the Eagles would have had too few defenders. The former Frankfurter obviously intensifies the fact that this did not happen. “I didn’t have to threaten anyone,” he said. “There were no tensions between the chairman and me. It was only a discussion about the sporty. (Parish) decided against the money in favor of Palace’s sporting perspective.”
And Guéhi, who had “very well mastered” the situation, also received praise from Glasner. He and those responsible for the Palace had spoken at Deadline Day, when the player already thought he was a Liverpool professional. His strong performance for the English national team then showed that he cope with the disappointment well. “He will be our captain as long as he is here because he is a great player and has a great personality.”
That should also be what you appreciate in Liverpool to Guéhi. “Of course we would like to hire him,” said Reds coach Arne Slot to the press on Friday. It was a shame for the player and the LFC this time, but a change does not seem to be out of the world either. Could a purchase in the coming winter transfer window be conceivable? Slot said, “If I think about it, I won’t tell you.”
