Twan Huys sees its market value in a rapid pace by the horror figures of RTL Tonight, because there is no commercial channel who ever wants him now, says TV critic Victor Vlam.
It is a remarkable situation: Twan Huys was once over from Humberto Tan to RTL 4, but scored much worse as his successor. After months of horror figures, Twan was finally taken off the tube. And now Twan is one of the experts in Humberto’s new talk show RTL Tonight. And again: horror figures.
Reputation damage
The flopping of RTL Tonight is harmful to many people, explains TV critic Victor Vlam. “I think you can say that Peter van der Vorst’s reputation is at stake. He is the program director who is responsible for making these types of choices and to replace the old talk show with RTL Tonight.”
He continues in the podcast Victor explains TV: “He will undoubtedly be involved behind the scenes to pull all this smoothly, but I also think that the attracted clients will cause the necessary reputation damage. Of course there is all the stigma that you have switched for the money and viewers want to believe that you have passion for your profession.”
Disaster for Huys
Those experts are now known as Grauwiers, says Victor. “If the image arises that you are only motivated by the money, then you still lose a bit of credibility. But these clients are also stuck in a format where they, like I said, do not come into their own and that is just really a problem.”
He continues: “Specifically for Twan Huys, this is really a drama, because this is the second time he is involved in a prominent fiasco on the late evening of RTL 4. Of course he was the successor to Humberto Tan as presenter of RTL Late Night. He did not last long, because that program just went very quickly.”
“Nobody wants him!”
The viewing figures of Twan were just as bad as Humberto’s now. “Yes, now he is again involved in a setback of RTL 4 on the late evening. Very frankly: I don’t think a commercial channel will hire Twan Huys afterwards with a prominent production on the late evening.”
“This is just really hard reputation damage for Twan. It is very clear that he is not a public favorite. Otherwise you just can’t say it. It’s annoying, but that’s just how things like this work.”
