The 1. FC Köln has to do without Luca Kilian (26) for months. The central defender contracted a cruciate ligament tear again on Monday in training – it is the third in one and a half years. Since the end of March 2024, Kilian has not been on the pitch for FC professionals, in between he was only able to intervene twice in the reserve in the Regionalliga West.
There the defender had torn the cruciate ligament for the second time in December 2024, the first injury also came from a training session. Shortly after the second cruciate ligament tear, Kilian had extended his contract until 2026. In mid -July, he returned to team training during the season preparation, now the heavy setback.
“Luca’s renewed cruciate ligament injury. It is incredibly bitter that he has already confronted with such a serious injury for the third time. As a FC family, we will accompany him closely, give him the best possible support and ensure that he finds the necessary strength to master this renewed setback. Luca has been a fighter in the past. Also help to cope with this difficult path, ”said sports director Thomas Kessler.
Kilian first came to Cologne from Mainz 05 in 2021 and was then committed. In the package, 2.25 million euros flowed to the FSV. Before his bad luck, which began in 2023 with a muscle bundle tear, Kilian was set in FC defense. There are 67 missions (two goals) for the Cologne professionals.
