The online retailer and logistician Amazon has enlarged his location in Werne. The company said that 900 additional jobs were created and now available a little more than 2,000 on the occasion of the commissioning on Monday. The logistics center there had been expanded for a low three-digit million euro amount and expanded to a so-called redistribution center within ten months.
In such a center, retailers deliver goods that are sold via Amazon – it is passed on to 37 logistics centers in Germany and Europe after delivery. As a result, the suppliers no longer have to send their goods to several Amazon centers and save work. Logistics becomes more efficient. It is hardly or no longer stored there – the goods come in and gets out quickly. In addition to Werne, Amazon has only two other redistribution centers in Germany, in Dortmund and Helmstedt (Lower Saxony).
Depending on the activity, the entry -level wage begins in Werne at 15.85 euros gross and thus around three euros above the minimum wage. There, conveyor technology was installed in five halls, which extends 17 kilometers. 12 million items can be handled and sent on each week. In North Rhine-Westphalia, Amazon operates 23 locations with a total of 14,000 employees, such as Dortmund, Oelde, Rheinberg and Mönchengladbach. Across Germany, Amazon has more than 40,000 permanent employees. The deliverers are not included in the number, they are active as a subcontractor.
