At FC Bayern, the focus is on management level. After the transfer phase, it turns out: The discussion about Max Eberl is gaining sharpness.

Even during the country break, FC Bayern remains loud. The focus: sports director Max Eberl. The 51-year-old was sharply criticized by Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß last Sunday. In the “double pass” at Sport1, Hoeneß said, among other things, that Eberl was “quite sensitive” and had to learn to share responsibility in the team. “I think he has his problems with that,” continued Hoeneß.

The comparison with earlier discussions between him and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was also not missing. They had argued with the German record champion at their time together, “but when the door went behind us, it was okay again,” said Hoeneß.

So far, Eberl himself has not responded to the statements. In the past few weeks, too, he had not taken disputes about personal details or decisions. Only a sarcastic remark at a press conference on the burst transfer of Nick Woltemade noticed: “Maybe Stuttgart lends him to us, we can borrow.” Background: The statement referred to a decision from August, according to which Eberl is only allowed to make rental businesses.

It is open whether and what consequences the criticism of Hoeneß entails. According to information from the “Bild”, Eberl’s resignation is currently not up for debate. His contract at FC Bayern runs until 2027. After the transfer period was completed, Eberl had said goodbye to a short vacation, and on Monday he started his work in Munich again.

Internally, the work of the sports director continues to be observed carefully. Transfer policy is said to have been critically analyzed in recent weeks. A final assessment is apparently planned for the upcoming Supervisory Board meeting. Their result could also become decisive for Eberl’s future role in the club.
