According to media reports, the Danish Kasper Hjulmand takes over the coaching position with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. The trainer from his time is known at Mainz 05.

Both the “Bild-Zeitung” and the “kicker” reported on Monday about an insulation between the German runner-up and Hjulmand. So far, there is no confirmation on the part of the club. Nothing is known about the contract term either. Hjulmand has to dissolve his consultant contract with the Danish association beforehand, according to the media mentioned.

The 53-year-old is known in Germany from his time at Mainz 05, where he was responsible for a total of 24 games between July 2014 and February 2015. However, he could only win five of them. He then successfully worked from 2015 to 2019 at FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish league and won 1.44 points on average in his 124 games.

Hjulmand in Denmark with successful work

He then acted as a consultant for the club before he became a Danish national coach in 2020. Hjulmand’s team achieved the semi -finals in the EM 2021, which was postponed due to Corona, and successfully qualified for the European Championship 2024. There Denmark reached the KO round – but lost 0-2 in the round of 16 against the German team.

After the tournament, Hjulmand had resigned. The Dane becomes the successor of only two Bundesliga-To -game days of played Dutch Erik Ten Hag and is supposed to get the runner -up on course after a bumpy start of the season. He should make his debut against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. In the Champions League, Hjulmand’s Bayer engagement starts with a very special away game: in the home of the new coach at FC Copenhagen.
