The German national team has recently disappointed. Uli Hoeneß has criticized national coach Julian Nagelsmann – and advice for him.
The anniversary “Double Pass” took place on Sport 1 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary. Among other things, Bavaria’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß was on site as a guest. The 73-year-old was also interviewed about the German national team, who most recently received a 0-2 loss to Slovakia in the World Cup qualification and has to go against Northern Ireland in Cologne on Sunday evening (from 8.45 p.m. in the T-online ticker).
Hoeneß said directly with reference to the bankruptcy: “We all know that it was not as optimal as you imagined it. But I prefer to lose the first game than the last. It is needed to increase a clear performance, otherwise it will be difficult.”
The DFB team has to play six games in the qualification, hopefully to be at the World Cup. Hoeneß also said with a view to the title of national coach Julian Nagelsmann: “I don’t think it is very good to speak of the title. Germany can do that, but everything really has to fit. And at the moment everything doesn’t fit.”
However, Hoeneß also emphasized that Nagelsmann could bring about the turn: “Of course he is the right one, you can’t break the staff here after a game. I am convinced that the team is already playing better this evening.”
T-online columnist Stefan Effenberg also addressed the games of the DFB team in front of the World Cup qualification and included the Nations League and the Final Four. He explained: “I find the development dramatic. I also think that Nagelsmann is also part of it.” Against Italy there was a 3: 3 in the second leg of the Nations League. Afterwards Germany had to accept two defeats: against Portugal in the semi -finals (1: 2) and against France in the game for third place (0: 2).
Effenberg emphasized that the national team could not perform again as against Slovakia. He also complained about the lack of “emotionality” by Nagelsmann with the DFB players. Effenberg also said that the invitation to the national team should already be “basic prerequisite” to contribute an emotionality and high willingness to perform.
