The scandal around Sean “Diddy” Combs: allegations and charges
Sean Combs, one of the most famous rappers and entrepreneurs of the United States, was targeted by civil lawsuits in 2023. His ex-partner Cassie Ventura accused him of serious sexual abuse, sexual coercion and violence. Soon his private sex parties-the so-called “freak-offs” were also in focus. According to the indictment, these were recorded without the knowledge of the people involved and served the 55-year-old for voyeuristic satisfaction, but were also used as printing and silence. The public prosecutor sees Combs as the head of a criminal structure. So the prosecutor Christy Slavik explains: “He ran sex trade, forced labor and kidnapped people across national borders for decades. In the most difficult points, such as human trafficking and blackmail, the jury spoke him free.
The view of the defense: Why diddy’s lawyers request acquittal
According to “TMZ”, Combs’ lawyers deny that her client violated the “man act”. The law from 1910 prohibits the transport of people across national borders for the purpose of prostitution. However, the defense considers the application to be wrong: Diddy itself did not make any payments or organized transports. Combs’ defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo, for example, presented the “freak-offs” as a mutual sexual adventure in which his client was never actively involved. The legal team around the accused rapper also rely on the fact that the recordings of amateur pornography correspond. These in turn are protected by the “First Amendment”.
According to “TMZ”, Combs says that the federal authorities could not really prove that he paid male escorts to have sex with his partners. He continues to hold on to the argument that all sex workers were rewarded for their time and continues to refer to his role as a “Kosherer voyeurist”. Combs also claims that the term “prostitution” is further in the historical context of the “man act”. “At that time, prostitution meant that a woman has sex outside of marriage,” said the accused. Accordingly, he concludes that the interpretation of the original intention of its acts does not correspond and considers a new process, or even the acquittal, to be appropriate. In the new procedure, the defense could be stressful, such as declaring a crime video with its partner Cassie Ventura at the time.
This is the “man act”: history and prominent cases
When the law was adopted at the beginning of the 20th century, in the United States there was afraid of the loss of western customs. Terms such as “immoral action” left the application a lot of space for interpretations within the next decades. In this way, the law was rewritten and expanded several times. “Immoral action” was replaced with “illegal sexual act” and in 2021, for example, supported the detention of the singer and Grammy winner R. Kelly. Ghislaine Maxwell, accomplice of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was also guilty in the summer of 2022 because of the flights with victims between New York, Paris and the Caribbean.
Decision in the Diddy process is still pending
The public prosecutor rejects Diddy’s team’s application according to “TMZ” and emphasizes the uniqueness of the evidence. The defense’s request was only a skillful attempt to delay the procedure for Combs. Judge Arun Subramanian has to decide on the application. The date for the announcement of the sentence is still scheduled for October 3, 2025 – unless the defense prevails with its application for acquittal or a new procedure.
