VVD-er Klaas Smidt (66) from Dieverbrug was installed as a temporary alderman of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn. He takes over the tasks of Jeroen Hartsuiker who left for the Lower House.
Smidt stays on until a new college was formed after the municipal elections in March next year. Borger-Odoorn is the third municipality where he is an alderman. Smit was previously an alderman in the municipality of Westerveld and temporary alderman in the municipality of Meppel, to replace the sick alderman Robin van Ulzen.
Smidt leaves in the middle whether he is open after Borger-Odoorn for another (temporary) aldermanship. “They sometimes jokingly ask me if I’m in the quartets,” he says. “But being an alderman is just a very nice job.”
