Politics usually build stories in the present, but sometimes the past reappears to give an unexpected frame to the current junctures. That happened with a photo that circulated in the networks and that recovered a moment of youth between Javier Milei and Diego Valenzuelathe president of the Nation and the Mayor of Tres de February, who were again in the same political space after more than three decades of friendship.

The Instagram publication of both leaders showed an image that was recorded in personal memory and, now, also in political history. The two met in the early nineties in the University of Belgranowhen they studied the economy career. They were classroom colleagues, but also complicit in long studies in their homes. In those meetings they exchanged notes, reviewed theories and even turned to explain the most complex issues. The daily life also united them: they returned together in a collective, Milei towards Devoto and Valenzuela to Santos Places, barely separated by a few stops.

The link, which seemed confined to university memories, had one of its most significant moments in the celebration of graduation. According to those who were there, Valenzuela’s mother organized a surprise meeting at home with friends and some faculty colleagues. The young Diego had run, shower and, when he left the bathroom, he met the prepared celebration: among the guests was Milei.

That episode, immortalized in a photograph that now resurfaces animated by AI, seeks to tell a friendship that crossed years of different paths, but ended up reuniting them in the same political front. Today Milei and Valenzuela are referents of Libertad advances: the first in national driving and the second with a Buenos Aires projection that places him as a candidate for senator and eventual candidate for the Government in 2027.

Next Sunday will be a decisive day for both. Milei will face his first great electoral test in the province of Buenos Aires as national ruling, while Valenzuela will seek to consolidate as a Buenos Aires reference.
