The THW Kiel won the second win in the handball Bundesliga on Wednesday evening in the second game. The team of coach Filip Jicha won after an increase in performance in the second round against HSG Wetzlar with 34:30 (16:15).
As with the victory in the first game in Erlangen, the THW showed no constant performance in the first home game of the season. Against the strongly replaced HSG, a seven-goal run in the second round brought the decision for the Kielers, who had previously acted for a long time after a good start.
The best thrower of the game was Emil Madsen with eight goals, goalkeeper Andreas Wolff came up with a strong 15 parades. And so, thanks to the national goalkeeper, the vest of “zebras” in the Bundesliga continues to know after the success of the Hesse. In your view, this should also be the case in the next league game against HSV Hamburg (September 13, 8 p.m., in the NDR LiveCenter).
THW starts strongly, but Wzlar is persistent
The game started at a lot of pace – and that was primarily due to the Kielers and especially due to Bence Imre or Domagoj Duvnjak. The two either scored wonderfully or put their teammates in the limelight. In the eighth minute, Duvnjak achieved the first three-goal lead of the THW (8: 5).
But on the first match day, Kiel’s great competitor from Flensburg had already felt how stubborn the Hesse can be during the painful draw. And at the latest from the tenth minute, this also became clear to the Jicha team. The HSG – bitingly in cover, more determined in the attack – initially came up and equalized in the 25th minute for the first time after the initial phase: Niklas Theiß hammered the ball past national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff into the mesh at 14:14.
Ellefsen á Skipagötu and Kiel turn up
It went into the break for the hosts with a 16:15 lead, but there was little to feel from the good start. With the five technical mistakes in particular, the team made it difficult for itself. In this picture, little changed at the beginning of the second round.
But it gradually got better again: in the defense, Jicha turned on an offensive 5: 1 cover – and in front Elias Ellefsen á Skipagötu almost threw a ball in the angle (19:18, 36.). It was the spectacular start of a 7-0 run, which Josip Simic broke through with the 19th goal of Wetzlar (43.). However, he only succeeded after seconds before the Skipagötu had chased a shot about the 25th THW goal into the net.
Even if the bravely fighting Hessen shortened again to four goals (27:23, 46th), the Jicha team confidently finished the game and was able to celebrate a successful home start into the new Bundesliga season with the almost 10,000 fans.
