Tens of thousands of fans are today in Zandvoort to view the final piece of the race weekend. Max Verstappen came in second in the Dutch Grand Prix, after Oscar Piastri. In this blog you can read everything about the second-to-last edition of the event.

This live blog is closed. The very last edition of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort will take place next year on 21, 22 and 23 August. Even then NH reports extensively.

See you next year!

The mayor of Zandvoort, David Moolenburgh, looks back with satisfaction at the parties around the Grand Prix in his village. “I can only say that it was a better edition than in recent years. The transport to the circuit and back, for example, already went well, but now went even more flexible,” Moolenburgh told Anp news agency on Sunday, while the spectators leave.

According to the mayor, the parties around the racing event went well, “apart from a number of incidents.” For example, it became restless on Saturday evening in the busy nightlife area in Zandvoort. Moolenburgh: “It was then decided not to allow people anymore. Some people did not agree. A gentleman got out of his record against the police, others have been involved. That can happen if you put people together.”

Max Verstappen is very satisfied with his second place at the GP van Zandvoort, reports ANP news agency. “It was not easy, but I gave everything at the start. Then I had to drive my own race because we were short of speed,” the driver said in an interview on the track afterwards. “We were lucky that one from McLaren dropped out.”

With a second place, Verstappen met his own objective to finish on stage for the Dutch public. “All in all a good result,” he says. “It is also special to drive here for all those orange stands. That gave a lot of support.”

Not a third, but a second place for Max Verstappen.

A few laps before the end, the engine of Lando Norris broke down, making Max behind Oscar Piastri. What an achievement of the Dutchman!

Today, the Dutch Railways brought over 57,000 Formula 1 fans to Zandvoort today. That is a few thousand more than last year, a spokesperson told Anp news agency. On Friday, the Dutch Railways transported more than 32,000 people to the seaside resort, yesterday there were around 49,000. During the race weekend, trains run every five minutes between Amsterdam Central and Zandvoort, called the ‘Max Express’ through the NS.

The fans trickle in on the Zandvoort circuit. Where it was still quiet this morning, the stands are now filling rapidly. From the station the thousands of fans walk over the boulevard or the Van Speijkstraat to the circuit. Flags, caps and orange shirts color the roads. The tension for the race is slowly building up.
