The A28 at Hoogeveen was closed in both directions this weekend. After a few weeks of work, the highway is fully accessible again on Monday, Rijkswaterstaat says.

Rijkswaterstaat has been working on major maintenance in the past two weeks. The asphalt was replaced in both directions and, among other things, maintenance had to be done on bridges, viaducts and verges.

“We are completely on schedule,” says a spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat. “The asphalt has been replaced, new lines have been installed, new traffic signs have been installed and the verges have been pruned.” The road will be completely open again next Monday. The spokesperson does not know when that is exactly.

“That can be on Sunday evening at midnight or at 2 a.m.. The road is completely passable for the morning rush hour.”

In addition to work and maintenance, research has also been done into leaks at the railway tunnel. In the past, these leaks caused slipperiness in the tunnel, which can cause dangerous situations. “I expect the report somewhere this fall, then we can look at possible solutions,” said the spokesperson.
