Queen Máxima receives strong criticism from Rick Evers, the royalty expert who is also known from today Inside. He thinks it is outrageous that she did not show herself at Sail. “She heard on the IJ.”
Summer takes a long time before the Oranges: they are enjoying their Greek holiday home. Great that they take peace, but you really don’t have to leave that long, says royalty expert Rick Evers. He believes that the royal couple goes on holiday too long and too often, he writes in his column in the Weekend. “Infinite vacation days,” is the headline.
Máxima Away
The royal family should have been especially more visible at the Sail event, which was celebrated in Amsterdam last week, says Rick. “The city full of masts, flags and music, the IJ as a stage of nautical pride. The king was there, as it should be: radiant, visible, waving.”
Queen Máxima, however, was not there, and, Rick thinks: “Sall is not just an event, it only comes once every five years and has an allure and size of world format. Exactly such a moment when a monarchy shows that she is proud of and for the people. Only fifty percent of the royal couple sparkled through absence.”
On the IJ
Rick thinks it is a very wrong choice of Máxima. “While millions of Dutch people were walking out to see the fleet, Máxima chose the Greek waters. There she, recorded by photographers: sun hat, sun -tanned, sun queen, with Prince Mambo. The question arises: what is you not just on the LJ as a queen?”
Willem-Alexander has sometimes been called the holiday king in the past, but, Rick says: “It is not the king, but the queen who has disappeared for months. Since her last working visit on July 1, Máxima has been without a trace,” he says. Then Snendend: “At least in the Netherlands.”
24/7 in office
Rick calls on Máxima to laze less. “The royal couple always emphasize that they are in office 24/7, but it is precisely during the holidays that they turn out to be champion. While the Netherlands is running in a 24-hour economy.”
“The real danger is not the royal drive away, but eventually becoming irrelevant. The fact that Queen Máxima was missed at Sail may be nasty, but it is still their salvation. The real danger comes if nobody sees the difference anymore. Then the Oranges can permanently go on vacation.”
