At the age of 21, the German tennis talent Tom Gentzsch started the week as number 370 of the ATP world rankings-and thus noted higher than ever. Gentzsch consistently continues an ascent, which has been going on for four and a half years. In order for it to continue, however, the right -handed man had to eliminate a flaw, which finally succeeded.
In mid-August 2025, Tom Gentzsch celebrated his sixth tournament victory on the ITF tour. At the tournament in Ystad in Swedish, Gentzsch prevailed against the Italian Alexander Weis in the final. However, the high yield at first glance has a catch: the German has so far celebrated all victories at M15 events, the lowest tournament class, which brings in a correspondingly manageable number of world ranking points. In Überlingen Gentzsch was finally able to leave this supposed flaw behind last week.
At the German M25 tournament, Gentzsch was able to win an event above the M15 category for the first time in his career. It is all the more remarkable that he succeeded with five two -set victories.
In any case, the DTB professional is currently swimming on a wave of success: Gentzsch is in a row at ten matches won, he won 13 of his last 14 appearances.
“Again two titles in a row, I am very proud of this trip”
“Champion in Überlingen! Two titles in a row again, I am very proud of this trip,” said Gentzsch after his coup on Instagram. Already in May he won the tournaments in Bastad (Sweden) and Kotka (Finland).
As a result, Gentzsch tried his luck several times at Challenger tournaments, but never got beyond the 2nd round.
However, the truth also includes that Gentzsch has to win games at the Challenger level in order to continue to climb even in the world rankings and to get a chance for ATP level in the future. This is the only way to get closer to the big money.
In view of the constant development of the Bundesliga player from TC Bredeney (Gentzsch ended the year 2021 as 1947. The world rankings and rose steadily, 2022: 809, 2023: 637, 2024: 435), Gentzsch is to be trusted.
