In March 2019, two mosques were made terrorist attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand. The 28-year-old shooter was sentenced to several life imprisonment for 51 murders and 40 attempts to murder.

Six weeks later, a man who arranged attacked a synagogue in California. One died, three wounded. The 19-year-old striker did not have a previous criminal record.

– He loved his family. He had friends. He was a gorgeous pianist, the attacker’s father says in the evening’s outdoor line documentary The destructive power of the Telegram service. For the first time, the father is talking about his son’s atrocity.

Both Christchurch and California shooters had written their plans on the dark on the Internet for years. The authors had written threats to the Muslim and Jewish population and described their an attack.

The Christchurch striker had described his attack live on Facebook and published a manifesto of tens of pages, telling his racist views. The California shooter boasted that he was guilty of mosque arson. He had also openly told his father that he supported the Christchurch attacker.

“Nothing would have guessed that he wanted to do something similar,” his father says in the documentary.

Illegal content was removed from the platforms, but they could not be prevented from spreading around the world. The writings inspired other users of the Internet to irreversible acts.

In October 2022, a young Slovak man attacked a gay bar in Bratislava and shot two people. He had published numerous messages and writings in which he both praised and criticized the actions of Christchurch and California shooters.
